Most people already have a navigation device (Navman, Garmin, Tom-Tom) that can alert to fixed cameras. You an even get FREE speed camera programs for your smart phones (like www.trapster.com)
Since the STi-R PLUS has a built in GPS module, you can still use this version to lock out all the false radar signals caused by automatic opening doors. Thereby giving you a much quieter drive around town.
Having this false alarm lock out feature (Escort call this "Truelock") is the most useful feature of the GPS enabled radar detectors. This STi-R PLUS model - even though the USA version - will still do this perfectly.
You can also manually program any fixed speed camera locations into this unit if you really want to....it just can't be uploaded with the Aussie / New Zealand database.
So if you already have a GPS device that alerts you to fixed speed cameras (or you use Trapster on your smart phone) but you DO want to be able to lock out all the false radar alerts, then save yourself $500 and buy this model.
Otherwise, you'll need to buy the $1800+ Aus model from one of our competitor's. But ask them first why they charge $1800 for a radar detector that is retailing everywhere else for $1200 US dollars?!?
